How Much Does Cabinet Refacing Cost in 2026?

Refacing a kitchen with new made-to-measure doors and drawer fronts typically costs about $2,300 to $4,500 in doors if you do it yourself, based on 319 nuDoors estimates, and $4,000 to $13,000 with a contractor.

How much does it cost to reface kitchen cabinets?

If you replace the doors and drawer fronts yourself, the doors are the main cost. Across 319 kitchens estimated with nuVision Pro between September 15 and October 22, 2026, new pre-finished doors and drawer fronts came to about $2,300 to $4,500 for the middle half of kitchens, with a median of about $3,100. Unfinished doors you paint yourself came to about $960 to $1,900, median about $1,400 (69 kitchens). A contractor-led refacing typically costs $4,000 to $13,000, and more for large kitchens or real-wood veneer (Block Renovation, 2026).

Those are planning numbers, not quotes. Your price depends on the number and size of the doors, the style and the series.

What the typical kitchen in our estimates looks like

The median kitchen in those 319 estimates had 14 doors and 6 drawer fronts, about 54 square feet of door surface in total. The middle half ranged from 10 to 20 doors and 3 to 9 drawer fronts.

Kitchen (doors and drawer fronts only)Pre-finished (Signature or Woodgrain)Unfinished, you paint

Larger (upper quarter)about $4,500about $1,900
Large (top tenth)about $6,900 or moreabout $2,800 or more

How we got these numbers: each figure is a percentile of the door and drawer-front subtotal on finished nuVision Pro estimates (latest revision only, no labor), grouped by the price per square foot used. Hinges, hardware, paint, shipping and tax are not included. Nothing that identifies a customer is published.

How is the price of a door worked out?

nuDoors prices doors by area: width times height in inches, divided by 144, gives square feet; multiply by the price per square foot of the style and series. A 15" x 30" door is 3.125 square feet. Every style page shows its starting price per square foot, and the door listing shows them side by side.

What else should I budget for?

  • Hinges and hardware. Most doors take 2 hinges; tall pantry doors take more. The hinge count calculator gives the number.
  • Paint for the cabinet boxes. Refacing with new doors usually means painting the face frames and side panels to match.
  • Shipping and tax, calculated at checkout from your address and order size.
  • Your time, or a contractor. Hanging doors is a do-it-yourself job for most people; a contractor adds labor.

What does a contractor charge to reface cabinets?

Block Renovation's 2026 guide puts most professional refacing jobs at $4,000 to $13,000, with large kitchens and premium materials reaching $15,000 to $20,000, and about $200 to $300 per door. Older cost guides put the national average around $7,000 (Inch Calculator, updated 2023). Labor is usually the largest line item, which is why doing the install yourself changes the total so much.

Is refacing cheaper than replacing cabinets?

Yes, usually by a wide margin. The same 2026 guide puts new stock cabinet boxes for a small kitchen at $6,000 to $10,000 and installed semi-custom cabinets at $12,000 to $30,000, before countertops, which often have to be replaced when the boxes are. See reface vs replace for when replacing is the better call.
